It's really hard to not post about the places or the culture. The reason I'm not is because I don't feel that I have a good enough review. It feels like everything is already happening so fast. I will write about them though. Just not yet. The past two days were my first experiences in Japan since arriving. The one thing that is definitely the hardest part is the language barrier. I smile and nod my head a lot. I try to do the best that I can with at least trying to nice and polite. I hope to learn more of the language while I'm here. I also hope to make a few good friends. As of now I have been a bit of a recluse. I would like to leave and nove about around the Air Force Base but currently it is really cold and I don't have a stroller. Otherwise I wouldn't mind walking around anywhere. I did once when I first got here. |

To start off this was my first time for a lot of things. Going to the airport, getting on a plane, leaving the country, leaving home. It was very scary and I had really bad anxiety. Ive never experienced anxiety before and it wasn't fun.
I started in Orlando and headed to Detroit. Then Detroit to Seattle.
And then before I knew it I was in Japan.
Getting Paid
While my husband is in BMT his money will get deposited into our bank account. He is suppose to get paid the 1st and 15th of every month. During week two he would have gotten paid on the 15th. He didn't do to the fact that in order for that to happen ALL paperwork need to be done by the 5th of the month. This wasn't possible since he LEFT on the 5th of the month. I've heard various things about how the pay is going to work. I hear that sometimes its less then expected due to your Airman Basic getting a prepaid VISA when they get to base. This VISA has $400 for all expenses. (Envelopes, Stamps, Deodorant, and whatever else they will need) Again this is just what I've heard. Not what I've experienced. He hasn't been paid yet and nothing is in the bank. When something does come in I will give you a heads up.
Loving the Mailman
I'm sure that when it comes to receiving mail from your Airman it will be different for everyone. I was lucky enough to get mail THREE days in a row.
The first letter arrived on May 20th. (Post Dated 16th) It was a short letter. I will honestly say that I felt more like a messenger then anything. He literally writes 'wassup?'. Along with telling me how he has received three of my letters already but hasn't read them yet but plans to and to continue to write. In the middle of the page he has a message for me to tell everyone that I gave his address to that he would like to hear from them. At the very bottom of the page these is a note for this mom. He kindly put arrows to it instructing me to text/show his mom. I will be honest. I was jealous that he wrote how much he misses his mom and loves her. That he thinks about her and prays for her everyday. While I got a 'wassup?'. I cried and knew that I had to let it go. I did and I delivered all the various messages via picture mail to the people. Along with this letter I also go my TRICARE information. I'll get back to that though. The second letter I got on May 21st. (Post Dated 18th/His date was the 16th) This envelope had three different letters in it. Mine, our friend Phil's, and a woman, Mrs. T (Old Landlady) This letter definitely beat the first. He tells how he is writing past lights out. One of my favorite things he says is that even though it is hot and miserable, he's rather be hot and miserable with me. In the letter he explains that his FLT did really good team work and has rewarded an extra hour for their town pass. I post this on AF Wingmoms Facebook page and end up feeling like an idiot because it turns out they had originally lost and hour and all of this other blah blah. Anyways, I was excited and shared it and it turned around on me and only made me feel like a moron. To continue with the letter he tells me how he learned how to disassemble and reassemble the M16 and that he loved it. I knew that he would. Puzzles have always been one of Nathans interests. The letter moves on to asking how I'm doing, if I have a baby bump yet, how is the family, and if Lillith (the baby) is treating me good. I get an 'I love you' and that sums up the second letter. The third letter came in on May 22nd (Post Dated 18th/His date was the 15th) He had actually written this letter BEFORE the second one. This makes the second one make so much more sense now.
The key points in the letter:
TRICARE
When searching online you find a bunch of information. This is what I got. When I got the TRICARE paperwork it was a only DD Form 1172-2. This has all of your spouses information on there as well as your own. The form is only valid for 90 Days. I don't see this as an issue since so many people want it an use it right away. They give you a website where you can make an appointment for you DoD card at the closest Military Base of your choice. The reason they give you the site is because every base is different. Some prefer for you to make an appointment and other don't really care. I stayed on the safe side and made an appointment. It wasn't hard to do. They do recommend that is you are going to be getting multiple DoD Cards (If you have children/teens) to make an appointment for each individual.
